Across Two Worlds

Across Two Worlds

By Eghishe Charents, translated by Jack Antreassian and Marzbed Margossian, with an introduction by the latter

These selected writings include excerpts from Erkir Nayiri and Erevan's House of Correction, essays, and diary entries.

Charents was born in 1897, and died 40 years later in mysterious circumstances while in prison. Initially a champion of the new order and the security he felt it would bring to his shattered country, he was in the end victimized by Stalin's terror. However, in his short life he produced a vast body of work. He is recognized as the pre-eminent modern Armenian poet, and the founder of modern Armenian literature.
